Basa Farms Vegetable Stand

Basa Farms Vegetable Stand

I actually came across this stand 3 years ago at the reopening of the Turlock Farmers Market. This is my go to stand for my vegetables. The man behind the stand is Tony who has been working at farmers markets for 5 years. He has been setting up in Turlock for 3 years. Always there with a smile on his face to make sure that you go home with a good deal and happy with bags in hand.

He sells a beautiful array of fresh local vegetables. With so many to choose from it is hard to pick just one. The wonderful Stockton Red Onions, zucchini, tomatoes both large and cherry size great for that afternoon snack. Fresh garlic, kale, green bell peppers, cucumbers, beets, cabbages that are sometimes as big as your head. He also sells fava beans I personally have never eaten them to be honest they kind of scare me. I have also heard they are a lot of work to eat. You have to peel them out of the pod then you have to peel the bean out of its shell.

I might one day give them a try and I believe you should try any food at least once. Along with that is my rule of you always have to take a second bite because maybe you missed something the first time. But I will let you know if I ever decide to try these fava beans. I could even pretend to be Hannibal Lecter and have them with a nice chianti.

These are those wonderful and beautiful Stockton Red Onions. They are actually sweeter than a normal red onion and have wonderful flavor. Even sliced raw in a salad they are just awesome!

Fresh Garlic and Beets. I was told by Tony that you can even eat the steam of the garlic too. To think of it I was just tossin it out. I did not go home with any beets today but I will tell you that garlic is great in everything you put it in. Even roasted in the oven.

Big beautiful vibrant red tomatoes and huge cabbage. I would have gotten another one but I still had left over from last week. The tomatoes are supper juicy and sweet. The cabbage is good no matter how you cook it. However in a pan with some butter and bacon for me.

Fava Beans, Zucchini, and Cucumbers. Not to mention those low prices. How could you say no to that price. I always buy at least 6 zucchini's for the week. and the cucumbers left in the fridge to get cold you can just slice them off and eat them they are so good.

What did I tell you the perfect size for just plain old snacking. These are like little sweet tomato bombs in your mouth.

You can't get any fresher then this. I have bought from Tony for 3 years and never got something home that I didn't like. With so many people wanted to eat from farm to table what a better way to get it there then to go to a farmers market and get it straight from the source. Basa Farms always has wonderful prices and quality vegetables. Make sure that the next time you are at the Turlock Farmers Market on Main Street stop by Basa Farms tent meet Tony get some veggies and trust me you will be hooked!
